PAX East 2024 featured many different indie games that are in development or have already been released worldwide. One of the new games featured at the event was Beat Slayer from ByteRockers’ Games which is a rhythm roguelite game that is quite entertaining.

If you are a fan of Hi-Fi Rush by Tango Gameworks then you will likely enjoy Beat Slayer which is very similar in one way, they are rhythm games. In Beat Slayer you play as Mia, a badass music lover and crafty tinkerer and she fights against hordes of robots of all sizes.

While fighting your way through hordes of robots you’ll want to fight to the beat of the music or else you will die, eventually. During the demo I played at PAX East I was able to choose multiple different paths since I did die a lot, but what’s cool is that you can choose your own path to earn XP, learn a new ability, or raise your health. This game is going to have a ton of different upgrades to choose from and with each one it will make the gameplay even better.

Beat Slayer’s setting is an alternative Berlin of the 90s which is a nice touch since the developers themselves are from Berlin. The other main characters in the game are Donna, a former dancer and choreographer and she shows Mia new moves for destroying robots. Tony is an aspiring musician and the brother of Mia.

We definitely felt the beat with Beat Slayer and look forward to the full release on April 4, 2024.
