Call of Duty: Vanguard has sold 30 million copies

Call of Duty: Vanguard was one of the more controversial games in the series when it was released on November 5, 2021. Sledgehammer Games was the main developer of the Call of Duty title with help from Treyarch, High Moon Studios, and Raven Software, and at the time Activision said the game failed to meet expectations.

A lot of the failure Activision claims it had was because of the World War II setting, which has been overdone at this point. Despite what the publisher said, Call of Duty: Vanguard has sold 30 million copies in its lifetime. That’s according to Brian Hong, a former Social Media Strategist for Activision who helped co-develop a strategy designed to acquire new players for Vanguard.

Call of Duty: Vanguard had a lot of mixed reviews on OpenCritic receiving an average score of 72 with 50% of critics recommending to play the game. It may go down as one of the more disliked Call of Duty games of all time.

Sledgehammer Games has its hands full now with Modern Warfare III and Warzone as its popularity continues to thrive. Activision mentioned this year’s Call of Duty is at a better spot population-wise compared to the previous year with Modern Warfare II.
