Square Enix had its financial results and the company revealed it has a new strategy moving forward. In the documents, Square Enix said “The group will aggressively pursue a multiplatform strategy that includes Nintendo platforms, PlayStation, Xbox, and PCs, in regards to major franchises and AAA titles including catalog titles.”

This news doesn’t come as a huge surprise as it was known publicly that Square Enix was underperforming in sales for Final Fantasy XVI, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Foamstars. All of those games were exclusively released for PlayStation 5 and never saw a release on other platforms.

The goal of this move by Square Enix is to build an environment where more customers can enjoy its titles. Its newest IP, Foamstars started strong on PS5 but then lost over 90% of its player base after it was available for free via PlayStation Plus.

Rumors in recent memory suggested the Nintendo Switch 2 could run the Final Fantasy VII Remakes among other games. It could be a great possibility that Square will want to put some of its Final Fantasy titles on the next Nintendo console.
