Ubisoft released its free-to-play first-person shooter, XDefiant on May 21, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. There were a lot of matchmaking issues on the day of release because thousands of players were trying to get into lobbies. Some players were successful, but some weren’t with the servers being overloaded.

According to Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, XDefiant reached 1 million unique players within 2.5 hours of release. He reports that at one point there were half a million concurrent players were logged into the game on release day. XDefiant reaching 1 million players in under 3 hours makes it Ubisofts fastest-ever game to reach that mark.

Now two days after launch, Tom says there have been over 3 million unique players with 300,000 concurrent players across all platforms. Those numbers will change over time and might have even improved already.

XDefiant has been in the works for several years and it was supposed to launch in 2023, but technical issues delayed the game to now. What helps the success of this game is that it’s free-to-play and it remains to see if these numbers will be consistent.

You can play the latest Ubisoft FPS on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
