Resident Evil 1 Remake In Development and Leon Is Lead For RE 9, claims insiders

Since the release of the Resident Evil 4 remake in 2023, fans have been speculating about the future of Capcom’s iconic survival horror series. Now, multiple sources are suggesting that a Resident Evil 1 remake is in the works, but there’s uncertainty about the progress of Resident Evil 9.

The Resident Evil 1 Remake is in Development and Leon is the Lead for RE 9, claims insiders

There are a lot of rumors about Resident Evil these days, but it looks like fans of the legendary Capcom survival horror game will be returning to the original setting, as the OG Resident Evil game is reportedly set to receive a second full remake.

The info comes from DanielRPK (via Patreon) and PRE_Alarabiya (Twitter account), two well-known leakers of video game information, who claim that this RE1 Remake is slated for release in 2026.

This aligns with Capcom’s tease of a “special announcement” for the franchise’s 30th anniversary in 2026, considering the first game debuted in 1996. Taking these things into account, a Resident Evil 1 remake would be an appropriate announcement and title to celebrate the achievement.

Also, these rumors follow earlier reports from leaker AestheticGamer, suggesting Capcom would announce a new Resident Evil game this year, slated for a 2025 release. However, AestheticGamer now suggests this information might be outdated, hinting at a longer development timeline. Although he can’t confirm it, he still asserts that Resident Evil 9 was planned to take place in a little hamlet on a made-up island in Southeast Asia and insists that the game will still be revealed this summer. But other than that, he claims to be unaware of any current details.

Meanwhile, another source named PRE_Alarabiya confirms the Southeast Asian setting and claims Leon S. Kennedy will return as the protagonist, marking his first solo game since Resident Evil 4. PRE_Alarabiya also states that a Resident Evil 1 remake is being worked on, but no one has given a timeline for its release.

Well, the recent years have been thrilling for Resident Evil fans, and it looks like things will only get better. Capcom’s release of the Resident Evil 2 remake in 2019 delighted both long-time fans of the series and newcomers to survival horror gaming. However, before this remake, there was the 2002 remake of the original Resident Evil for the Nintendo GameCube, considered by many as the gold standard for remakes. It featured stunning graphics, new locations, subplots, puzzles, and terrifying creatures like the crimson head zombie. Despite its age, the 2002 remake still holds up well today, with many fans continuing to enjoy it.

Now, with rumors swirling about the Resident Evil 1 remake, fans eagerly await the opportunity to revisit this classic adventure in a fresh light. But while another modern remake of the original game is enticing, many are also hoping for remakes of titles like Resident Evil Code: Veronica and the cult favorite Resident Evil Outbreak, which are yet to receive the remake treatment.
