Ninja Theory, the developer behind Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, has reportedly already received greenlit for its next game, in addition to its current project, Project Mara.

Ninja Theory’s Next Game Greenlit Along With Project Mara Reveals New Report

Since Microsoft acquired Ninja Theory in 2018, the studio has been working on multiple projects. Now recent reports indicate that Microsoft has greenlit Ninja Theory’s next project and has no intentions of closing the studio.

This information comes from Jez Corden at WindowsCentral, seemingly addressing misunderstandings about a recent Twitter post by Ninja Theory. In the post, Dom Matthews, the studio head, thanked fans with a message that some misinterpreted as a farewell.

“Making video games is difficult. Much like Senua, we as a team have been guided by a conviction to achieve our quest: To make a game that sinks you deep into Senua’s world and to take you on a journey that leaves you thinking and feeling,” Matthews wrote.

Now given the industry’s current climate of layoffs and uncertainty, it’s understandable why some might have thought this was a goodbye. However, Corden clarifies that this is simply a heartfelt message from Matthews.

According to WindowsCentral, which cites “trusted sources,” Ninja Theory is working on two projects besides Hellblade 2. One is the previously announced Project Mara, described as a “real-world and grounded representation of mental terror.” The other is an unannounced project that has already been approved by Microsoft.

WindowsCentral does not provide details on this new project but emphasizes that Microsoft has no plans to shut down Ninja Theory. However, speculation about the new game ranges from a new intellectual property to a possible third entry in the Hellblade series. Ninja Theory has also previously worked on the Devil May Cry series, rebooting it with DmC: Devil May Cry in 2013. Although Capcom showed interest in a sequel a few years ago, this seems unlikely at present.

Well, Ninja Theory has a history of producing smaller, focused games that are highly ambitious within their scope, allowing them to release Hellblade 2 within four years. Hence, whatever their next project is, it might not be far off.

For now, fans can look forward to Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 on Xbox Series X|S and PC, set to release on May 21, 2024.
