6 Months Later is the OPPO Find N3 Flip still the best Flip phone?

Estimated read time 7 min read

When OPPO decided to enter the flip phone fight, it did so with understanding the pain-points of a consumers when it comes to foldable (or in this case, flip) phones with the most glaring one to be the actual foldable screen and the crease it creates. Thus, their hard-working tech wizards at their HQ managed to create the smoothest, sturdiest (at the time) folding hinge to ensure almost zero gaps on the phone when folded and have a much flatter screen when unfolded: this is their Flexion Hinge. We’ve talked about it in a previous article when we visited the OPPO Plant at Shenzhen, China to try our hand in assembling the engineering marvel.

The OPPO Find N2 Flip was their first foray into flip phones, specializing on the form factor and making sure that pain-points usually expressed by foldable users are addressed. When it came time for the OPPO Find N3 Flip, it became all about optimization, improvement, and really creating a truly flagship flip phone for the market.

Ever since its local launch Q4 of last year (insert review link), there have been several flip and foldables that entered the market. After roughly 6 months, is the OPPO Find N3 Flip still worth it?

Real Flagship Camera System

During the heydays of the current generation of flip-phones, to make up for the extremely handy form-factor, certain hardware inclusions on non-flip flagship devices had to be compromised. Which is why it’s still exciting to note that up until now, the OPPO Find N3 Flip is still the leading flip phone that has real flagship cameras included on the device. This also means that the optics were assessed and approved by Hasselblad lending their naturalistic color profile.

To start with, the OPPO Find N3 Flip has a large 50MP wide camera with a SONY IMX890 (1/1.56”) Sensor + OIS which has an equivalent focal length of 24mm. Right beside it is a 48MP Ultra-wide shooter with a SONY IMX581 sensor. Last, the device is treated to a 32MP Telephoto Portrait Camera with a SONY IMX709 sensor. It also has 2x zoom for better portrait framing. And yes, you can capture videos at 4K as well.

While you’ll be wanting to use the main camera modules most of the time, if you do need to use the selfie cam, the OPPO Find N3 Flip is equipped with 32MP Portrait Camera with a  SONY IMX709 sensor.

Clearly, the brand didn’t see the need to downgrade the camera system to make way for the compact form factor of the phone.

Because of the large cover screen on the OPPO Find N3 Flip, you can prop the phone on any flat surface and take your photos easily via the Flexform Capture.

Until the next iteration of OPPO’s flip phone, the Find N3 Flip still has the best camera setup on a flip phone to date.

Optimized Apps for Cover Screen

OPPO’s first foray into the flip phone market saw a large 3.26” AMOLED display on the OPPO Find N2 Flip. Back then it was the biggest cover screen in the market. A generation down, and while there are flip phone with bigger screen, OPPO still feels that the 3.26” display is the most optimized for majority of apps to work best on it. What’s more, the OPPO Find N3 Flip regularly add more apps to work well on the cover screen alone. Need a discreet navigation device? Open Google Maps on the Cover Screen. Need to quickly reply to someone? Open the messenger tab on the OPPO Find N3 Flip Cover Screen.

The rectangular aspect ratio mimics the form factor of most app as how they would react to a regular smartphone. OPPO understood this and that’s why they decided to stick with the same cover screen size as the Find N2 Flip. Hey, if it ain’t broke, just optimize it! 😊

Plus, the cover screen has the right size for viewing videos on it as well. While you’d obviously want to view videos on the bigger screen by unfolding the phone, watching on the 3.26” AMOLED Screen isn’t so bad as well.

All-in-all the revamped cover screen on the OPPO Find N3 Flip can accommodate a lot of the popular apps these days (more than 80 apps actually). If that’s not enough, the device also has proprietary screen pets that you can interact with and entertain you briefly whenever you wake the cover screen up (or just opt to open the always-on-display option).

1,000,000 Fold Strong

Lastly, the OPPO Find N3 Flip is certified by TÜV Rheinland for its exceptional commitment to build quality that it can withstand 1 million folds before showing any signs of wear and tear. For majority of foldable users, this is great news as they can be assured that the foldable screens on the OPPO Find N3 Flip won’t crack or be defective any time soon. In fact, even if you fold and unfold the unit at 200x per day, you’ll be doing so for almost 14 years before it degrades.

This is thanks in large part to the improved Flexion Hinge on the OPPO Find N3 Flip. And while it may not be the thinnest foldable in the market, the hinge makes it one of the best and flattest when you open the phone up. The Flexion Hinge also gives the phone almost zero gaps to ensure dust and debris to not enter the unit once folded.

True Flagship Experience

Powering the OPPO Find N3 Flip is a 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 9200 which should run your favorite apps with ease. Gaming is also smooth as it utilizes the 120Hz refresh rate of the unfolded 6.8” AMOLED display. It has 12GB (+12GB) of RAM and a 256GB of memory while having a large 4300mAH battery with 44W SuperVOOC Fast Charging capabilities, all hallmarks of a true flagship device.

When the OPPO Find N3 Flip was released, it was running on ColorOS 13.2 based on Android 13, but a few months in and we’re now using the phone on the ColorOS 14 based on Android 14 architecture. This means that most features of the new Android OS is made available to the device including magic eraser for photos and easy cropping of images/ text.

Available in two stunning colors: Cream Gold and Sleek Black, the OPPO Find N3 Flip retails for Php 64,999 but if you time your purchase on select platform sales from Lazada, Shopee, or TikTok, you could potentially get the device for much less.

So, 6 months down the line, should you get this flip phone still? If you’re in the market for a superbly reliable flip phone with true flagship optics, then yes. We’re not sure if OPPO will be following up the series any time soon as a lot of online leaks suggest that a Find N5 Flip might have been cancelled (there probably won’t be a Find N4 because the number 4 is considered a bad number in Chinese culture as the number phonetically sounds the same as the Chinese word for Death).
